Optimize your HumHub instance for Google and Co.

Title and Meta Description

Title and description decide on how your page looks in the search results and let search enginges understand what your page is about.

  • HumHub sets default titles but it is worth to customize them to your individual HumHub platform.
  • A meta description is not set at all and therefore search engines can show strange results. With the SEO module you can set the meta description for all public pages. (Note: Sometimes Google and Co. might show a specific excerpt from your page instead of the meta description, based on the users search keywords. But most times your meta description will be used. And additionally it helps Google understand what is important on your page.)

You have two ways to edit the SEO settings of a page:

  • Contents Overview (since version 1.2)

The admin page "Contents" shows all pages that are included in the sitemaps and gives you the possibility to edit their SEO settings with one click.

  • SEO Mode

With the SEO mode you can browse through your network. A button is added with which you can edit the SEO settings of the current page. This works for all pages with an SEO-friendly URL. Since version 1.1 also URLs with an "id" parameter (e.g. eCommerce products) are supported.

Title and meta description are translatable as described in the HumHub docs. The message category is SeoModule.custom.

Prevent indexing of certain pages

You can exclude certain pages from indexing by search engines. Technically this means that a noindex tag is added to the page and it is excluded from the sitemap.
